Maspalomas-a place to enjoy

In the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in the south of the island there is one of the most valuable and most charming country town of Gran Canaria:

“Maspalomas Costa Canaria”

The GC-1 motorway, is the direct connection to the international airport of GranCanaria (25 km).The islands capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is situated about 60 km away. The existence of public transport (buses Global), and the large number of taxis at the airport,makes Maspalomas to a quick and easy accessible destination.  The transport network is cheap and good.During the day, and within of Maspalomas / Playa del Inglés,the state-run buses equipped ”Global“, go usually in the stroke of 20 minutes.

The town of San Bartolome de Tirajana is the largest municipality of Gran Canaria.A place of contrasts, due to its volcanic nature.Due to the constant sun,its mild temperatures,its beautiful beaches and the beauty of mountain peaks  located in the background,developed Maspalomas into one of biggest tourist destinations in Europe.

There are busy,known sand beaches as the long stretch sand beach of Maspalomas,an almost endless strip of golden sand, stretching from Playa del Ingles to the foot of the great lighthouse of Maspalomas,past the desert dunes,which runs along the south coast of the island.Beaches exercising a magical attraction for generations of vacationers from all over the world.Maspalomas has 5 beaches awarded with the blue flag,has been awarded by the FEE  for cleanliness and environmental quality.

These are the beaches “Playa de Ingles”, “Playa de Maspalomas”, “Playa de SanAgustin”, the “Dunes of Maspalomas“, and the “Pasito Blanco”.From the Playa de Maspalomas, you can also visit the lighthouse of Maspalomas,a 1889-built building that is visible 40 km out to sea.Surrounded by sea and mountains you can find in Maspalomas ,rest,sports,adventureculture,and a shown top Canary- and International - Restaurant kitchen.

The town Maspalomas has not grown  tradition,but is a strong tourist center and has no other relevant industries.

Maspalomas consists for the most part of holiday resorts,hotels,shopping centers and amusement parks.

The place is divided into the following parts:

1. El Oasis: southern part, consisting of the Faro de Maspalomas (lighthouse) and the oldest holiday resorts (1960)
2. Meloneras: southwestern part, consisting of large hotel complexes, shopping centers and convention hall(built in 1997)
3. Campo International: middle and eastern part, consisting mostly of bungalows and a golf course area “Campo de Golf”(built 1980-1995)
4. Sun Country: northwestern part of Maspalomas, built in the 1980s with small hotels and private residences, since 1997 added more hotels
5. El Hornillo: Located in the west of the village, home of affluent inhabitants.
6. El Tablero: Northern part, already on the north side of the highway, no hotels, home of many hotel employees and workers.
